Robert “Pete” W. Petersen, age 72, passed away suddenly and way too soon on June 18, 2012.
Pete retired from the US Navy in 1976 as a CPO. Of course Pete’s first loves were Dixie, his family and his beloved dog “Petee”. But Pete’s life also revolved around Escapees, Chapter 57, SKP ACRE and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4216 in the Ocala Forest. Pete and his family camped in tents, pop-ups and motorhomes, with 20 plus years of full-time Rving. Pete loved to help, and he cooked at most events that he attended. Pete will be missed by all.

ith SKP ACRE moving towards it’s fourth annual rally, Jane and I have been very pleasantly surprised by it’s growth and success. Five years ago, when we first conceived of a large multi-chapter rally to be held annually in the eastern half of the country, we could scarcely have imagined that we would have more than 260 attendees with over 160 rigs, yet we hit those numbers in 2012 - only our third rally. Next April, we anticipate, we’ll see new highs in attendance, as well as an ever more interesting schedule of events, including all the entertainment, amenities and attractions of Western North Carolina, and the best that the Escapees has to offer in the form of James Koca and the SmartWeigh Program.
SKP ACRE, however, isn’t mostly about the numbers, or the organized activities. The rally is really to create an opportunity for the largest number of Escapees to get together to share our comradeship and our fellowship. We SKPs thrive on togetherness and sharing, as our chapters, our BoFs and our HOPs show. Most of all our spirit is embodied in the annual Escapade. The Escapade is unique, and there is no alternative to attending in person, but for SKPs who can’t make it there every year, SKP ACRE provides an opportunity — we like to think your best opportunity — to renew old acquaintances and make new ones.
SKP ACRE is also an opportunity for your Chapter or BoF to have its rally or gathering in conjunction with ours. In previous years the SOLOs, Doves, Heavy Haulers and Chapters 16, 20 and 29 have all held their rallies and round-ups at SKP ACRE, and we hope to host them all, and many others, again next April.
Mostly, however, SKP ACRE is about you and your participation. Each and every SKP is welcome! Much more than, say, Escapade, our rally is about what you make of it. Certainly we have activities, and certainly we have scheduled daily times for all attendees to gather en-mass, but there’s still plenty of opportunity for you to meld your interests into the framework of the rally. Bring your energy, your knowledge, your stories, your music, your jokes and your fellowship and help us make each SKP ACRE an ever-more-successful event than its predecessor. See you in April!
